Overview

King Iler Ruthgar was the brutal and tyrannical ruler of Lagadagr who seized power six years ago after killing the honorable Eric Valorin during the Festival of Blades. A powerful Logia-type Devil Fruit user with swamp-based abilities, Iler ruled through fear, imposing crushing monthly tributes on the three villages that left the population impoverished and starving.

His reign was marked by violence and oppression - burning homes of those who couldn’t pay tribute, creating fake devil fruits to control his warriors, and maintaining a small but loyal cadre of barbarian followers. Iler valued power above all else and saw conquest and raiding as the highest pursuits.

He was defeated in the Festival of Blades by the party, with Flynn delivering the killing blow via roundhouse kick to the skull. His death marked the end of six years of tyranny and the beginning of a new era under his granddaughter Cara’s leadership.

Appearance

  • Build: Large, imposing warrior physique
  • Style: Barbarian aesthetic with warrior garb
  • Combat Gear: Great axe wielder
  • Swamp Manifestation: Body could transform into swamp matter (Logia intangibility)

Personality

Iler was a brutal raider who loved violence and conquest above all else. He showed no mercy to those who opposed him and viewed tribute collection as his right as ruler. Despite his cruelty, he maintained loyalty among his small circle of barbarian warriors through a combination of fake devil fruits (possibly controlling them) and shared warrior culture.

He was strategic enough to avoid casting spells while raging in combat, showing tactical awareness despite his barbaric nature. His disregard for his predecessor’s progressive policies (slavery abolition) and willingness to use terror tactics (burning homes) demonstrated his ruthless pragmatism.
